Application Process for the Society of Chest Pain Centers Research Grant

The Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) is interested in fostering clinical research involving acute coronary syndromes, acute decongested heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and observational medicine. The SCPC Research Grants are selected on a competitive basis to provide funding for a research project in this field of interest.

Criteria: The successful applicant will submit a project proposal likely to result in a substantive contribution to the field of acute cardiovascular medicine. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct a well-defined project during the ensuing year should not exclude projects that could take more than one year and present an abstract of his/her findings at the SCPC Congress of Chest Pain Centers the following year.  The project must be complete and the abstract presented to Congress of Chest Pain Center Abstract Review Committee by deadline for abstract submission of the year following the grant award notice (generally in March).

A wide variety of research projects are acceptable for submission, including clinical investigation, laboratory science, epidemiological surveys, development of new techniques or novel application of existing techniques, improvements in equipment design or use and disease prevention. Review criteria for consideration includes; innovativeness of the research question, scientific merit of design and methodology, and the potential contribution of the finished work to the field of acute cardiovascular medicine.

Eligibility: Any qualified individual may apply. Only one person may be listed as the principal investigator. All co-investigators, collaborators, and consultants must be listed. Budget: SCPC Research Grant funding is available for materials, supplies, non-capital equipment (less than $500), related to the project. Reasonable expense reimbursement for travel to the SCPC Annual Meeting will be provided to the winner in order to present findings of their research project and should not be included in the budget. The amount of funding is up to $10,000 (in US Dollars). No more than one award will be granted each year. SCPC Research Grants are not subject to institutional indirect costs.

Notification of Receipt: Applicants will receive an automated email reply that the submission has been received. It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify their email system administrator to accept emails from the domain "scpcp.org".

Attaching Budget to Application: In addition to filling out the online application form, applicants will need to attach a Budget to the form at the time of submission. Instructions for attaching the file are on the application form. The budget must be in an MS-WORD or MS-EXCEL format file only.

Notification of Award: Applicants will be notified by email by March 1, 2010 if the review committee has selected their research for grant support. It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify their email system administrator to accept emails from the domain "scpcp.org".
